Accounting of the Soul

It is currently 10 past Midnight here in my local. The Bible instructs us to number our days, which I take to mean we should make every single moment count.

I would like to think I had one such day today.

I woke up this morning and sleepily thanked God for giving me another day of life, said the Bathroom Blessing and the Morning Blessings, moseyed around a bit and got ready to collect my grandson and visit my mother at her new home at the Retirement Village.

We had lunch together, and although it was delicious, my nine-year-old grandson pretended to be tired and therefore not hungryπŸ˜€

He was so adorable! He hugged and kissed his great-grandmother a great deal, enough to last until the school holidays, when we will hopefully see him again.

My mom asked him to promise her that he would at least eat just one thing from his lunch for supper - to which he scrunched up his face but never actually said the word NO. We laughed. When we got home, he very kindly offered me his lunch for my supper!

We worked on our 500 piece puzzle for an hour or two and then he went home to play with his friend who he also says goodbye to until the school holidays.

We are all eagerly awaiting Juan-Dre's arrival back in East London for the July school holidays - we're praying for it. He is such a loved life-force. We will all miss him desperately. Thank goodness for technology. It isn't the same as having him here every week, but it is definitely better than nothing.

I dropped my beloved off and came back and prayed with my prayer partner for about 30 minutes for our children and sick friends. Then it was time for Rabbi Bernstein's Sunday Shiur on Wayyiqra. Wow! What an amazing and intense lesson. If anyone tells you there's nothing to learn or know in Leviticus, do not believe them! The Sifra - an ancient commentary on Leviticus - will also form part of my learning this year, God willing.

After that, I watched a live video teaching on Moshe Rabbeinu's birth- and death-day, which is today. At 10pm, when I was done there, I prepared 3 Hebrew lessons for tomorrow, and now - two and a half hours later - I am wide awake. I shall take the laptop to the bedroom shortly and, after saying the Bedtime Shema, I will watch some teaching on the Torah portion and hope to fall asleep within 2 hours or so.

Some days I feel like I just threw them away. But today, I feel as if I really used the day to the full. My mom was happy to see us, my grandson was happy he got to say goodbye to her, I have learned something about the things of God, I have prayed, and I have seen a lot of real people, something that doesn't happen every day for me. I even bumped into my aunt when we visited my mom, and my grandson met his great aunt for the very first time!

I am grateful to my heavenly Father for all the blessings He has bestowed on me today. I eagerly await my assignment/s for tomorrow. So I had better hit the hay, as they say!

  1. Can't believe that of you. Penny. To me you use your time in teaching, studying, praying, gardening, to name a few things. I am confident the Lord will say "well done, good and faithful servant" to you when He comes. Shavua tov πŸ₯°πŸ’žπŸ’Œ

    1. Todah for your kind words, but we are all only human with limitations. I thank the Lord He has been gracious enough to allow me to work alongside Him in building His Kingdom down below, however small the offering on my part. I am grateful.:)

  3. Blessings to you too, dear. I'm glad my writing gift blesses others. Yes, in many ways we are journeying together, although separated by a continent and a sea! Blessed day, always:)
